My Story
I've been writing and editing professionally since 2005. Always an avid reader, my passion for writing started in High School with a creative writing course.
Although I loved writing, when it came time to choose a college and major, I opted for the growing field of materials science and engineering, receiving a BS in Ceramic Engineering from the University of Illinois, U-C, and working a year at Motorola in Franklin Park. Looking for more of a challenge, I returned to school at Northwestern University in Evanston and earned a doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering with a focus on semiconductor physics. After Northwestern, I worked at Motorola again, this time for 18 years. Two layoffs from Motorola encouraged me to leave corporate and pursue my passion for writing full-time.
I love hearing people's stories and helping them get their thoughts down on paper so they can share them with others. I have had the honor of working with Harry Gambill, retired CEO of TransUnion, author of What Successful People Do, Alex Ong, author of the Mind Your Own Wellness, and other, more private, individuals. I would love to hear your story as well.
My Partners
Ted and Maureen Glasoe, the Glasoe Group (www.glasoegroup.com)
Ted and Maureen take the electronic manuscripts I create for clients and make them come to life. They create a design and layout for the book or booklet, find artists for original graphics, and contact printers to help you self-publish. Maureen is also an excellent editor and will proof-read your final draft. They are located in Evanston, IL.
Al Lewek, Lewek Photography and Frame Services (www.glenellynphotos.com)
Al has been creating photos for individuals, families, and businesses in the Glen Ellyn area since 1969. He can photograph you and your loved ones to include in your memoir. He can also copy and restore your archived photos so they can illustrate your story. I've entrusted Al with my own heirloom photos; he handles them with respect and creates an excellent reproduction.
Acknowledgments
I attribute my love of language and learning to my mother, Elizabeth Scarborough, PhD, author of Untold Lives; The first generation of American women psychologists. Watching her earn a doctorate degree and commute to Chicago for editing jobs while running a household and raising my brother and me, inspired me to work hard and find my own way in the world.
Ghost writing and editing requires listening skills as well. My father, Earl Goodman, EdD, a retired marriage and family therapist, helped me develop those skills by always listening to me.
Clara and Henry bring joy to my life every day and keep my feet planted firmly on the ground.
James holds my hand every time I change direction.
